Job Description:
Brewer Science, a leading supplier of specialty coatings to the microelectronics industry is currently seeking a full-time Senior Research Assoicate to work in Customer Operations, Lithography Materials R&D Group, at the Rolla, Missouri location.

Summary: Engage in team-sponsored laboratory research, as well as independent research, to support division project objectives that are integral to the success of Brewer Science and its customers. Direct, coordinate, and exercise functional authority for planning, organizing, control, integration, and completion of projects.

Specific Responsibilities
  • Technical functions:
    • Design and coordinate the execution of experiments with team members to develop, characterize, and/or improve materials, formulations, synthetic methods, or processing schemes.
    • Work with wide latitude for completing complex projects requiring the origination and application of new unique approaches.
    • Provide technical inspiration, leadership, and consultation to professional co-workers.
    • Apply advanced knowledge in area of specialization to solve problems.
    • Develop competitive technical proposal and externally funded research programs to support company long-range technology development objectives.
  • Leadership:
    • May serve as senior technical leader for one or more projects.
    • May supervise, mentor, motivate, and help evaluate team members on the same project.
    • May serve as project team leader.
    • Support team efforts by active involvement in team discussions and decision-making.
    • Show initiative in improving workplace safety and orderliness.
    • Demonstrate excellent work habits and attitude and a good spirit in cooperating with others
    • Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work area.
  • Communications:
    • May act as a liaison with other groups, divisions, and functional groups.
    • Demonstrate ability to communicate with external customers. This activity may require domestic travel or international.
    • Demonstrate ability to organize and present data and conclusions from technical work in a clear, concise manner, either in written or verbal form. This includes responsibility for 1) preparing research proposals or proposal sections relating to a specific technology area, and 2) representing the company at outside technical forums.
    • It is also expected that R&D staff will begin to distinguish themselves at this level on the basis of technical competency and creativity, project management skills, and/or people-management skills. The particular compliment of skills that they demonstrate will create opportunities for advancement into more senior technical, business, or management positions.

Requirements:
Credentials and Education

  • Master’s Degree plus 3 years experience or
  • PhD preferred or
  • Equivalent combination of education and related experience.
